Being – Seeing - Revealing

The Fine Art of Observation

In Creative Writing

5 Thursdays, April 22nd – May 13th

(Skip May 20th, reconvene May 27th)

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon

Upper West Side, NYC.

In this course we will hone our ability to gather and select the details that make a work of art come alive. Using fine art techniques and various literary sources to inspire our creative writing - from impressionism, expressionism, minimalism, naturalism, realism, faux and primitive movements (feel free to add on!) – we will assemble a range of references to draw from. Whatever genre you are working in – from memoir to poetry to short story – developing a keen sense of observation will drive and empower your creative process.

All aspirant and/or experienced writers are welcome. We will use centering techniques, such as meditation, to open our inner resources and flex the muscles of memory and of vision, and structured writing exercises to assist you in bringing to the page that which you discover within.

Fee: $180.00 To register, please email: loutemple@optonline.net   or, Phone: (516) 208-7788

Louise Temple has recently presented the following courses and they are available upon request:

The Fine Art of Portrait Writing
Using fine art techniques to inspire our creative writing - from impressionism, expressionism, pointillism, naturalism, realism, faux and primitive movements (feel free to add on!) – we will assemble a range of portraits-in-words of the significant people in our lives. These can be used for fiction or non-fiction writing, particularly memoir.

We will look at all aspects of what makes a person tick – emotional, intellectual, physical and spiritual – so they pop out from the page in all their humanness. We will consider the life experiences that made each as we perceive them, and we will learn much about our selves and our relationships in the process!

We will use structured writing and meditation exercises as springboards into our writing adventures. Participants need no prior experience in either.

Writing to Open the Gates of

Prayer and Creative Joy in 2010

Sometimes our path is not so clear and we long for direction. Creative writing can be a key to the way ahead, opening us to express our deepest longing for fulfillment. When we connect to who we are at the core of being, true joy is released and we access the courage to write from the heart.

In this workshop we will use structured writing and meditation exercises to discover our personal hopes and dreams, and arrange to “meet” with them in 2010. We will anticipate the demon road-blockers and embrace them playfully; we will look at calendar dates and times in our lives that are charged with meaning; and find ways to express personal prayer that is authentic for each of us.In a safe space we will till the soil of the yearto produce fruits of the soul

Participants need no prior writing or meditation experience.

 Writing For Sacred Occasions

“Words From the Heart Enter the Heart” – The Talmud

When we connect sincerely to our deepest felt spiritual truths, the chances are we kindle a flame in the heart of our listeners. With this mutual awakening comes the joy of sharing something greater than our selves.Whether you are creating a sermon for your spiritual community – have been asked to deliver a motivational spiritual talk – are spontaneously leading a group in prayer – or are presiding over a ritual/rite of passage in your place of work - this workshop will offer you some simple tools to speak from the heart with confidence. We will use structured writing and meditation exercises as springboards into our writing, and there will be time for you to present and share your work. We will draw from a wide variety of source material to inspire and to reveal your unique understanding of what is most meaningful on this human journey.
